The second reason for options being severely restricted for people with neurological disabilities is the fact that it’s easier, cheaper and more convenient to have one-size-fits-all solutions, especially as the organizations tasked with providing services like housing and employment to the neurologically disabled tend to be government agencies, or at least receive the vast majority of their funding from the government.

For housing, it’s often stay living in your parents place into your 40s or live in a hyper restrictive group home, employment for people with neurological disabilities is dead end retail work at best, etc. We place kilotons of unnecessary barriers that make it almost impossible for someone who has a neurological disability to live independently, have meaningful careers, and basically anything else “neurotypical’ adults can and often do do.
