Charlie’s specialty is seeing a simple solution to what had been seen as a complicated or difficult problem. This has resulted in a number of patents, and several significant architectural innovations.
 
He is proficient in computer and system security; trusted systems; formal methods of reasoning about systems; and using quantitative methods to reason about service level properties of systems, including performance and reliability of distributed software systems.
 
Charlie earned his MS in Computer Science (with EE and Math) at Duke University in 1991. He earned his ABD in Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994.
