Professor Peter Jones

Peter Jones, Ph.D. is Associate Professor at Faculty of Design at OCAD University, Managing Partner at Dialogic Design International, and Managing Director at Redesign. He is also Senior Fellow of OCADU’s Strategic Innovation Lab, with research interests in dialogic design, scholarly and civic media innovation, and systems and services design in healthcare.
 
Peter is an experienced innovation consultant and design researcher, and the founder of Redesign, now located in Toronto. He has designed market-leading interactive information services for legal, medical, educational, business, and scientific applications. He is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Design at OCAD University, and teaches in the MDes Strategic Foresight and Innovation program. He is a Senior Fellow of OCADU’s Strategic Innovation Lab, with research interests in dialogic design, scholarly and civic media innovation, and systems and services design in healthcare.
 
Peter is author of the 2012 Rosenfeld Media book Design for Care: Innovations in Healthcare Experience. Design for Care inspires cross-sectoral systemic design by introducing methods and practices found effective in different healthcare contexts, illustrated by current cases & design research.
 
He also published We Tried to Warn You: Innovations in Leadership for the Learning Organization in 2009 (Nimble Books). He wrote Team Design: A Practitioner’s Guide to Collaborative Innovation in 1998, and revised it in 2002.
 
Peter earned his B.A. in Psychology at Wright State University. He earned his M.A. in Human Factors — Exp. Psychology at University of Dayton in 1991 with the thesis “Advance organizers as mental models: Do they make a difference in software usability?” He earned his Ph.D. in Design and Innovation Management at Union Institute and University in 2000 with the dissertation “Embedded values in innovation practice: Toward a theory of power and participation in organizations.”
