Wayne W. Alward, Jr.
Wayne W. Alward, Jr. is the Founder of Alnilam Space, a Global Space Satellite Consulting Service. He founded the company in September 2014.
Previously, Wayne worked at Lockheed Martin for more than 18 years. He worked on Space Systems, COMSAT Technical Services, and Integrated System & Global Solutions.
Wayne was responsible for creating and building a thriving and profitable business within Lockheed Martin, leading from startup to maturity, with annual revenues up to $75 million and more than 25% profit.
His early career path included Space and Satellite programs, enduring through multiple mergers and acquisitions (RCA/GE/Martin Marietta/Lockheed Martin). He contributed to flight hardware series 7000 and A2100 avionic product lines and performed in an onsite technical consultant role.
Wayne exceeded his management’s expectations, and was promoted abroad in South Korea where he executed ahead of schedule. He excelled in his commitments by bringing more than $1B in Commercial and USG Satellite Program Contracts.
He joined Lockheed in 1996 as Manufacturing Engineer for KIP (Korean Industry Participation Space Program), which he completed ahead of schedule. In this time, he was nominated for the Lockheed Martin top NOVA award and received many awards/recognitions for program success from Koreasat-3 PMO, customers, and manufacturers.
After two years, Wayne became a Subcontract Manager for THAAD (Theater High Altitude Area Defense Program) where he managed major contracts with the U.S. Army’s THAAD program. He achieved first THAAD Demonstration Validation (DEM-VAL) test as part of the 15-Member Special Mission Tiger Team chosen from over 130,000 Lockheed Martin employees.
Wayne continued as Senior Program & Satellite Vehicle Manager between 1999 and 2004. He earned program and operational awards for completing Americom Satellites ahead of schedule / under budget; and, for steering the NSS-7 project back on track. He coordinated and managed the seamless transition of satellite payload assembly integration and test function, and created strategy for coaxial cable and waveguide spares adopted as standard for the A2100 satellite.
After 2004, he became Senior Program Manager for Commercial Space Systems, where he optimized and attained >90% on-time delivery of spacecraft hardware and software. For that reason, he became Senior Manager and EVP (Chief Executive Officer & President Equivalent) in 2008.
Wayne attended Carnegie Mellon University where he graduated from Executive Strategies and Practices. He earned his US DoD Secret Clearance from the Lockheed Martin Corporate Institute. He was a graduate at Certified Program Management Professional, Institute Center for Leadership Excellence for Financial Strategies, and Capturing New Business Institute.
At Stanford University, Wayne finished an Audited Graduate Aerospace Engineering Course. He holds a Program Manager Level III certification issued from Lockheed Martin in 2005.
