Amelia Kallman

Amelia Kallman is futurist, speaker, journalist, author, and director of the first virtual reality burlesque show based in London. She publishes the monthly independent innovation newsletter The Big Reveal.

As an innovation and technology communicator, Amelia regularly writes, consults, and speaks on the impact of new technologies on the future of business and our lives. She is an expert on the emerging risks of The New Realities (VR-AR-MR) having recently completed a cutting-edge report for Lloyd’s of London. She also specializes in the future of retail.

Coming from a non-traditional technology background, she has a unique talent for making the complex accessible. Since going freelance in 2017 she has become an in-demand international speaker.

Originally from Fairfax, Virginia, Amelia grew up entertaining audiences on many of Washington D.C.’s most prestigious stages. She studied acting at Marymount Manhattan College, where in 2015 she earned her Bachelor of Arts, and Shakespeare at the British American Dramatics Academy. While living in the penthouse of The Chelsea Hotel with her partner, Norman Gosney, they ran an illegal speakeasy, The Blushing Diamond, before moving to Shanghai to open China’s first burlesque nightclub, the award-winning Gosney & Kallman’s Chinatown.

Coming from a theatrical background, Amelia started her tech career by chance in 2013 at a creative technology agency where she worked her way up to become their Global Head of Innovation. She was a curator of international tech labs, exhibitions, and innovation lounges in both London and Dubai, working with startups and corporate clients to develop connections and future-proof strategies.

She’s lectured at Cambridge University, written an award-winning book, and directed the first burlesque show in 360° Virtual Reality show titled Gosney & Kallman’s ‘House of Love’. In 2016, she led an experiment that measured the emotional data of people ages 3–80 as they experienced virtual reality for the first time. Her writing is often featured in WIRED UK, IBC365, and The Huffington Post.

Before her career in tech, Amelia was Owner, Director, and Entertainer of the nightclub Gosney & Kallman’s Chinatown in Shanghai City, China. She planned and produced original in-house entertainment and client-tailored road shows.

Briefly, Amelia worked as Sales and Marketing representative at 1185 Films and she soon joined Engage Production as Innovation Manager in London. In 2015, she authored Diary of a Shanghai Showgirl, a real-life story about the couple who took on the Communists and beat the odds to open China’s 1st burlesque and cabaret nightclub. Amelia joined Engage Works in London in 2015, where her job was to attract, inspire, and engage new business through marketing, innovation, and thought leadership.

Today she continues to discover and bring attention to inventive startups, she regularly writes, consults, and speaks on the future of business and brand experiences.
