Dr. Darrell R. Johnson
Darrell R.
Johnson, Ph.D. is a clinical supervisor/lecturer in family
therapy within the Institute of Community and Family Psychiatry of the
Montreal Jewish General Hospital. He is also a registered psychologist
and member of the OPQ (Ordre des Psychologues du Québec) and a
conference speaker on various psychological themes.
Darrell has expertise in the Systemic, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Brief
Solution-Focused therapeutic approaches which he uses in his work with
individuals (children, adolescents and adults), couples, and families.
He spent seven years with an internal Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
for a large bank, where he coached managers and employees on stress and
burnout management, team dynamic development, conflict resolution,
Psychological Type, Emotional Intelligence, and the human impact of
organizational change and transition.
He has a wide range of academic experiences. He has taught university
courses, in both English and French, at Bishop’s University
(Family
Dynamics and Therapies, The Psychology of Human Sexuality)
and at
the
Université de Montréal (Family Intervention,
Social Adaptation
Difficulties in Context, Intervention with the School-Aged
Child).
He is
on the faculty of the well-respected Couple and Family Therapy Training
Program at the Montreal Jewish General Hospital, where he lectures on
family therapy themes and supervises postgraduate students in family
therapy. He presents conferences and workshops to parents, teachers, and
professional groups on such themes as “Don’t Be Stressed Out About Your
Stress”, “Five Styles of Conflict Resolution”, “Interpersonal
Communication”, “The School of Emotional Intelligence”, and “How To Make
A Fruit Salad: Appreciating Interpersonal Differences”.
Darrell earned his B.Sc. in Psychology at Oklahoma Christian University
in 1981. He earned his M.Ps. in Psychology at Université de
Montréal
in 1986 and his Ph.D. in Psychology at Université de
Montréal in 1999.
He enjoys wilderness canoeing and long distance running and is a
two-time Boston Marathon finisher (2009, 2010).
