Eric Klien
Eric is the founder and President of Lifeboat Foundation, which he established in 2002 in the aftermath of 9/11 to safeguard humanity from existential and global catastrophic risks.
Under his leadership, the foundation has grown to encompass more than 3,000 scientists, futurists, and public figures across its advisory boards—including five Nobel laureates: Wole Soyinka (Literature, 1986), Richard J. Roberts (Medicine, 1993), Daniel Kahneman (Economics, 2002), Sir Clive W.J. Granger (Economics, 2003), and Eric Maskin (Economics, 2007), with Kahneman and Granger now on our Advisory Memorial Board.
A cryonicist since 1989, he previously served on the Alcor Investment Advisory Board, founded The Atlantis Project to develop a floating city in the Caribbean, and built and ran the web hosting company Colossus, Inc., which he sold in October 2005 to devote himself full-time to the Lifeboat Foundation. Eric believes in focusing on high-value activities, delegating to good people, and assembling the largest collection of the best people he can find. He also welcomes endorsements of his Big Breakfast Eating skill listed on LinkedIn, which is funnier than ever in this Ozempic era.
From 1986 to 1991, Eric was employed by Time Trend Software, a stock analysis software company.
In 1991, having built-up his modest wage by playing the stock market, Eric retired and moved to Las Vegas.
In 1992, Eric devoted his efforts to the campaign of Libertarian candidate Tamara Clark for State Senate.
Eric’s disgust with election fraud and his interest in Libertarian philosophy led him to found The Atlantis Project in 1993, with the goal of creating an independent floating city in the Caribbean Sea named Oceania — a city independent of the limitations and bureaucratic failures of present day government. In its early stages, this project gathered a great deal of interest and was covered by media in the U.S. and around the world.
After selling off his interests in an online matchmaker service to Match.com and contributing to IMS — an employee scheduling software venture, Eric moved on to launch the web hosting company, Colossus, Inc in May 1995. Later in 1995, Eric created thelist.com, which Colossus sold to Mecklermedia/INT Media Group Inc.
Eric enjoys games such as Cyberpunk 2077 (which he modded the hell out of!) and Bloons TD 6, his two favorite movies are The Matrix and Star Wars, and his favorite book of all time is Neuromancer. He has been weight training since 1977, which is very helpful for the big food lifting needed for Big Breakfast Eating.
