Fran Sorin
Fran Sorin is a best-selling author, futurist, entrepreneur, and humanitarian with a focus on health and developing a new food economy where both consumers and smallholder farmers are empowered. She is also a coach, inspirational speaker, trainer, CBS radio news correspondent, and Huffington Post contributor.
Fran is passionate about exponential technologies and the enormous positive impact they can have on humankind. Through Peter Diamandis’ A360 group, Fran has developed her Massive Transformative Purpose: To ensure that all of humanity gain access to nutritious, real food for pennies a day.
Fran is the author of the highly acclaimed book Digging Deep: Unearthing Your Creative Roots Through Gardening and believes strongly in the power of good nutrition having a huge impact on our physical, mental and emotional health, daily exercise, loving relationships, adopting an abundance mindset, and de-stressing.
Fran has been with Hachette Book Group since 2004 with the help of which she published the above mentioned book. In 2009, she became a co-creator of Gardening Gone Wild, a group of gardening professionals who share their passion and expertise. The focus is on garden design and photography, creativity in the garden, plants, garden travels, and sustainability.
Fran decided to share her passion for using gardening as a conduit for living creatively and approached the local Fox TV station in Philadelphia about doing some gardening TV features. She spent years as a gardening authority on Philadelphia’s Fox and NBC stations, was the regular gardening contributor on NBC’s Weekend Today Show, and made several appearances on CNN, MSNBC, Lifetime, HGTV, DIY, and the Discovery Channel. She has also been a celebrity spokesperson for OurHouse.com, MSNBC, and Garden Weasel.
Fran started her career as as Account Executive selling advertisements on WKBS TV for two years until 1977, and on KYW TV Channel until 1979.
After a year on break, she became a Media Consultant at Martel and Associates before she founded the Shooting For The Stars at Radnor Recycles for Refugees, a non-profit organization and motivational program for elementary students, which was given a citation from Mayor Rendell on the impact it had on improving the education of children in the Philadelphia school system. She has spent more than twenty-five years initiating and working on community projects that have served the diverse community of West Philadelphia, including Radnor Recycles for Refugees and Shooting for the Stars and has recently initiated a community garden and learning center on the grounds of a church in an underprivileged neighborhood of West Philadelphia.
In 1991, Fran founded her Fran Sorin Garden Design, designing residential gardens on the East coast of the United States for more than 18 years.
Between 2000 and 2004, she worked as Radio Talent, Host, and Writer at Infinity Broadcasting. Talent and Producer for ‘The Gutsy Gardener’ a unique call-in gardening talk radio show.
In 2004, she joined USA Weekend Magazine as GardenSmart Contributor focusing on environmental issues among other things. In the same year, she became a contributing editor for Radius Magazine on well-being, and a Gardening Correspondent for CBS Radio News.
While Fran was busy contributing for various media groups, she was also an international High Performance Coach at Fran Sorin Coaching, starting in 2009 until 2018.
Fran earned her Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Psychology in 1974, from the University of Chicago. She focused her studies on creativity and altered states of consciousness and honors research on creativity in schizophrenics.
