Shermon Cruz, M.A.

Shermon Cruz, M.A. is Founder, Executive Director, and Chief Futurist of the Center for Engaged Foresight, a strategic foresight and futures innovation firm with global operations based in Manila.
 
He is the current Chair of the Association of Professional Futurists (APF), the largest professional association of credentialed professional futurists in the world with a membership of 600 professional foresight practitioners and experts in over 50 countries. Shermon is also the current Chair of The Millennium Project Philippines Node, a network of the global foresight research think-tank, The Millennium Project, a strategic foresight research think tank that has published The Global State of the Future Index since 1997. He is a co-founder and partner of the Make Our Future, a global organization committed to helping transition organizations and communities to more sustainable and equitable practices.
 
Since early 2023, he has been an Adjunct Faculty of the Asian Institute of Management and lecturer on Futures Thinking and Applied Foresight at Northwestern University, the Philippine Public Safety College, the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research on Agriculture. He previously served as a lecturer at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Executive Education Program and served as supervising fellow and research fellow at the Development Academy of the Philippines Graduate School of Public and Development Management, faculty at the University of the Philippines National College of Public Administration and Governance, and formerly the Director of the Philippine Center for Foresight Education and Innovation Research at Northwestern University and ESME Philippines.
 
As APF Chair, he co-founded the Global Future Society led by the Dubai Future Foundation and an advisor toe the UNESCO and Dubai Future Foundation Global Futures Literacy Initiative. Shermon is UNESCO Chair Candidate on Anticipatory Governance and Regenerative Cities at Northwestern University.
 
He is a co-founder and organizing member of the Asia Pacific Futures Network and formerly chaired the 2020 Asia Pacific Futures Network Conference, a network of top futurists and government foresight practitioners and institutions in Asia and the Pacific. He was formerly regional Editor of the Journal of Futures Studies, a global futures thinking journal published by the Graduate Institute of Futures Studies at Tamkang University, Taiwan, and a reviewer at the Foresight Journal published by Emerald.
 
He has served as Technical Consultant and Futures Advisor to the Asian Development Bank, the Rockefeller Foundation, East-West Center Leadership Academy, UNICEF, UNDP, UNESCO, UNFCC, ILO UNHCR, OECD, USAID, and the Al Madinah Regional Development Authority to name a few.
 
Shermon has served as a resource person on futures thinking and strategic foresight for the National Futures Institute of the South Korean National Assembly, UNDESA, UNFPA, UNHCC, Horizon Insights, USAID Stride Program (United States), Public Sector Foresight Network (United States), The Cities Today Institute (London), the Local Government Innovation Alliance (United States), The Dubai Energy and Water Authority (United Arab Emirates), and Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (India) among others.
 
He is a sought-after speaker and appeared as a foresight resource for the Philippine Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation, and Futures Thinking, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine Navy, the National Academy of Science and Technology of the Philippines, the National Economic Development Authority, the Department of Science and Technology PCAARD, National Economic Development Authority, Department of Health, Commission on Higher Education, the Center for Local and Regional Governance, Department of Trade and Industry, University of the Philippines Diliman and Los Banos, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, The Global In-House Center Council for the Philippines, the Business Continuity Managers Association of the Philippines, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Education, the Philippine Society for Talent and Development, GCash Philippines, Google Philippines, and the Philippine Public Administration Society.
 
Shermon earned his Master’s Degree of Arts in Public Administration in 2003 and his Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Political Science minor in Economics in 2001 from Northwestern University. He earned Futures Studies Certificates at Tamkang University in 2012, at University Sains Malaysia in 2011, and a Futures Masterclass on Foresight to Policy at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Executive Education in 2020. In 2016, Shermon became a Certified Business Continuity Professional with his graduation in Security and Resilience from Buckinghamshire New University. In 2021, he took the Moonshot Thinking Masterclass on Innovation and Strategy at the Futur/IO Institute.
 
He is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Futures Studies at the University of Sunshine Coast as a Higher Education by Research Scholar of the Australian Government.
 
He has worked and advanced futures and foresight in over 30 countries with the best in the futures and strategic foresight field. He has served and provided support to more than 200 corporate, government, and community-based clients on Strategic Foresight and provided Foresight Training and Certifications to more than 5,000 professionals, experts, think tanks, and organizations around the world.
 
Shermon was a recipient of the 2014 International Social Science Council and the World Social Science Forum for Early Career Social Scientists from the Global South and was a member and Advisor of the Accenture Philippines Future Leaders Council.
 
He previously served as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Department Chair of the Public Administration and Political Science programs and Planning Officer at Northwestern University.
 
As a business continuity and risk management leader, he has served as a country location leader and manager for business continuity and risk management for companies like Ernst and Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Accenture, and John Clements Business Continuity Consulting Services. He has supported over 150 of Fortune 500 companies for business continuity and risk management.
