Elon Musk Says SpaceX Will Catch Starship Booster With Giant “Robot Chopsticks”

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, robotics/AI, space travel

According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the space company will attempt something very different to recover its massive Super Heavy booster after it launches.

“SpaceX will try to catch largest ever flying object with robot chopsticks,” Musk tweeted early Monday morning.

He was referring, of course, to the giant robotic tower SpaceX is building to catch the primary rocket stage after it gives the company’s Starship spacecraft a boost into orbit.

Elon Musk’s ‘Mars City’ Expects to Use MOXIE That Will Produce ‘Breathable’ Oxygen for Humans!!

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, robotics/AI, space

NASA’s MOXIE could make breathing in Mars a reality. The space agency’s new invention can turn Martian air into oxygen, making it a game-changer for future Mars explorations.

According to Popular Mechanics’ latest report, it is impossible to breathe on Mars since its atmosphere is around 1% the density of Earth’s. Will this be beneficial for Elon Musk’s planned ‘Mars City?’. NASA’s MOXIE experiment will soon have an answer for us to thrive longer on the red planet. This weekend, the space agency hopes that the automated system could be the saving grace for humans to live on Mars if a time comes that the Earth becomes unsuitable for living.

The device called Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment could supply humans with oxygen through extracting from the atmosphere of the red planet which is composed of 96% of carbon dioxide. The process will be made possible through electrolysis which involves the device being run through an electrical current. Since the Perseverance rover’s touchdown in February, MOXIE will conduct the third oxygen-extraction procedure. Moreover, what it produces could supply enough oxygen for humans that is good for 10 to 15 minutes.

SpaceX launches ants, avocados, robotic arm to space station

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, robotics/AI, space travel

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — A SpaceX shipment of ants, avocados, and a human-sized robotic arm rocketed toward the International Space Station on Sunday.

The delivery — due to arrive Monday — is the company’s 23rd for NASA in just under a decade.

A recycled Falcon rocket blasted into the predawn sky from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. After hoisting the Dragon capsule, the first-stage booster landed upright on SpaceX’s newest ocean platform, named “A Shortfall of Gravitas.” SpaceX founder Elon Musk continued his tradition of naming the booster-recovery vessels in tribute to the late science fiction writer Iain Banks and his Culture series.

Tesla Will Spark Controversy (Again) Next Month

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, robotics/AI, transportation

Tesla may be the world’s most valuable automaker but it’s also under a federal investigation over its Autopilot semi-autonomous driving system. Teslas with Autopilot engaged have crashed into police cars and emergency vehicles parked on the side of the road and the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) understandably wants to know what’s going on.

On top of this, a pair of US Senators are demanding another investigation over the Autopilot name itself, claiming it’s misleading. Bear in mind Autopilot is rated at only Level 2 whereas Level 5 autonomy requires zero human input. Far too many Tesla owners don’t seem to understand that, hence the Senators’ concerns. And now Elon Musk has confirmed the next stage of the Full Self-Driving Beta will arrive soon.

Tesla’s 4680 battery cell pilot production line hits 70–80% yield: report

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, energy, sustainability, transportation

Tesla has a number of programs that have the potential to change markets, and one of these is arguably the 4,680 cells. Created using a dry electrode process and optimized for price and efficiency, the 4,680 batteries could very well be the key to Tesla’s possible invasion of the mainstream auto and energy market. If Tesla pulls off its 4,680 production ramp, its place at the summit of the sustainable energy market would be all but ensured.

Unfortunately, Tesla’s publicly disclosed target for the 4,680 cells’ production ramp appears to have been made on “Elon Time.” This means that during Battery Day last year, Tesla’s target of hitting a capacity of 10 GWh by late September2021included some optimistic assumptions. Similar to other projects like Elon Musk’s Alien Dreadnaught factory, however, the pilot production of the 4,680 cells have met some challenges.

Tesla admitted to these difficulties during the Q22021earnings call, when Elon Musk explained that one of the main challenges in the 4,680 cell production ramp was related to the batteries’ calendaring, or the process when the dry cathode material is squashed to a particular height. Partly due to the use of nickel in the 4,680 cells, which are extremely hard, some of the calendar rolls end up being dented.

Jack Dorsey hopes bitcoin will help bring about world peace

Posted by in categories: bitcoin, Elon Musk

Square CEO Jack Dorsey has high hopes for digital asset and aspiring currency bitcoin.

“My hope is that it creates world peace or helps create world peace,” Dorsey said during a “The B Word” webinar on Wednesday.

“We have all these monopolies off balance and the individual doesn’t have power and the amount of cost and distraction that comes from our monetary system today is real and it takes away attention from the bigger problems,” Dorsey added. Tesla CEO Elon Musk and ARK Invest founder, CEO and CIO Cathie Wood were also speakers on the panel.

Elon Musk: ‘Bezos retired in order to pursue a full-time job filing lawsuits against SpaceX’

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, government, internet, satellites

Can this be true?

Elon Musk has criticized fellow centibillionaire and space cowboy Jeff Bezos for filing lawsuits against the former’s aerospace company SpaceX.

Earlier this month, Bezos’ space firm Blue Origin sued NASA after it lost a critical government contract to put astronauts on the Moon to SpaceX. This has had the effect of delaying SpaceX’s own work on the project. And now, this week, Amazon has urged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to dismiss newly-submitted plans by SpaceX to launch another cluster of satellites to power its satellite internet service Starlink.

Tesla starts hiring roboticists for its ‘Tesla Bot’ humanoid robot project

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, robotics/AI, sustainability, transportation

Hurray.

Tesla has started to hire roboticists to build its recently announced “Tesla Bot,” a humanoid robot to become a new vehicle for its AI technology.

When Elon Musk explained the rationale behind Tesla Bot, he argued that Tesla was already making most of the components needed to create a humanoid robot equipped with artificial intelligence.

SpaceX may dig a tunnel to enable frequent South Texas launches

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, space travel

This situation has become a logistical headache for SpaceX, which seeks road closures to move rocket hardware along the road and for tests and launches. It has also been unpleasant for nearby residents and those who enjoy the undeveloped beach.

Now, SpaceX founder Elon Musk has a potential solution. The Brownsville Herald reports that officials from Musk’s The Boring Company met with Cameron County officials in July to discuss digging a tunnel from the south end of South Padre Island to the north end of Boca Chica Beach, facilitating alternate access to the barrier island.
