SpaceX is looking forward to providing Starlink satellite broadband internet service globally. The company aims to initially offer connection in rural areas of the northern United States and Canada before this year ends. A total of 4,409 internet-beaming satellites will initially make up the Starlink constellation; t here are around 708 satellites already in low Earth orbit. SpaceX is Private Beta Testing the network among employees. Starlink users receive broadband service from the satellites in space via a user dish terminal that is easy to install. âThe instructions are super-easy. You plug it in, and you point it at the sky, and a few seconds later you have internet. Itâs truly remarkable,â Jonathan Hofeller SpaceX Vice-President of Starlink and Commercial Sales said in July.
SpaceXâs Starlink network is also undergoing real world use with Washington stateâs unit of first responders, who are helping rebuild after wildfires destroyed the small town of Malden early September. The emergency telecommunications leader of the Washington State Military Departmentâs IT division, Richard Hall, told reporters he set up Starlink user terminals in locations that are severely devastated by the fires, to provide families broadband access that enables them to perform wireless calls and connect online. In his job profession Hall has set up a variety of satellite services, he stated that âthereâs really no comparisonâ between Starlink and other networks. âStarlink easily doubles the bandwidthâ in comparison, âIâve seen lower than 30 millisecond latency consistently,â he told CNBC news last week. â âStarlink will be a revolution in connectivity, especially for remote regions or for emergency services when landlines are damaged,â the founder of SpaceX Elon Musk said.

Elon Musk: The Rise Of Starlink

Might as well make it a movie!
This is the first time ever in my life that I felt frightened while writing a story on Medium. Then, I proofread it and I started sweating all of sudden. Find out for yourself and let me know how you feel! Anyway, recently, I wrote how Elon Muskâs Starlink could potentially take over the whole telecommunications industry, how it can eventually change the digital landscape, and how it can connect our blueprint to the universe. Today, Iâm writing how Starlink, along with the right planning, execution, and zero technological compromises, can create not just a new technology, but a whole new way of living.
Imagine wandering the Sahara desert on a weekend trip and suddenly, you feel the urge to capture the moment. So, you pick up your iPhone and take a panoramic picture. Then, imagine sharing that same picture to your friends, to your family, right in that exact moment. Your family decides to FaceTime you and you talk to them for an entire hour while blindly walking around the Sahara desert, drenching in sweat. Thatâs what itâs like to be Starlink connected. There are no limits to what Starlink can do. Online, wherever you go.

Starlink puts towns devastated by wildfires online for disaster relief workers
Posted by Genevieve Klien in categories: Elon Musk, internet, satellites
SpaceXâs Starlink has showed its utility in connecting far-flung locations to the internet quickly and relatively simply in Washington, where like much of the west coast wildfires have caused enormous damage to rural areas. A couple small towns in the state have received Starlink connections to help locals and emergency workers.
The town of Malden was almost completely destroyed, but restoration efforts are underway, and of course it helps to be able to access the internet for communicating with residents and authorities. With power and cellular service unreliable, satellite internet is a good temporary option, and Starlink stepped up.
As SpaceX founder Elon Musk said on Twitter, the company is prioritizing emergency responders and areas without internet:

Elon Musk says he likely will take Starlink satellite internet service public in âseveral yearsâ
Posted by Genevieve Klien in categories: business, Elon Musk, internet, satellites
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Monday reiterated the likelihood that his private space company will likely take its Starlink satellite internet service public in the coming years.
âWe will probably IPO Starlink, but only several years in the future when revenue growth is smooth & predictable,â Musk said in a tweet. âPublic market does not like erratic cash flow haha.â
SpaceX leadership has previously discussed the idea, with company President Gwynne Shotwell in February telling a group of investors in February that âStarlink is the right kind of business that we can go ahead and take public,â adding that the company could spin it off.

Teslaâs new 4680 battery cells have been deployed in working vehicles for months
Posted by Genevieve Klien in categories: Elon Musk, transportation
Elon Musk recently clarified that Teslaâs new 4680 cells are already being deployed in some of its vehicles as prototypes. Even more interesting is that the next-generation batteries have already been in use for several months, though the CEO did not state which of its vehicles are equipped with the 4680 Roadrunner batteries.
The Tesla CEO related his update in a recent post on Twitter. While responding to a question about the companyâs strategy with its cathodes and its suppliers, Musk noted that Teslaâs own battery cells are already powering some of its cars. That being said, Musk clarified that ultimately, prototypes such as cars that currently run on the companyâs 4680 cells are trivial, as they are incomparably simpler than actual volume production.

Teslaâs Cyberquad electric ATV prototype had its first public outing this week since the unveiling last year, and here we bring you a closer look with a gallery of pictures.
When Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck last year, CEO Elon Musk had a little âone more thingâ moment on stage when they brought the Tesla Cyberquad, an electric ATV, to show the loading capacity of Cybertruckâs bed.
At the time, it wasnât clear whether Tesla planned on making the electric ATV available, but Musk later confirmed that it will be an option for Cybertruck buyers.
