AI talent grab sparks excitement and concern

Posted by in categories: computing, robotics/AI

AI talent from academia is not surprising; however, another area where AI talent has existed in the US is in the national labs such as those Computer Scientists and Architects at ORNL (X-10, K-25, Y-12) during the years of 1990s, 2000s, and 2010-today as well as other labs such as Los Alamos, etc… I know this because I was one and worked with many AI specialists and researchers. I will say some of this talent has gone into the private sector; however, many still work on AI. In case companies are interested in trying to locate solid AI specialists.

Google, Facebook and other tech firms are changing how artificial-intelligence research is done.

Rave Computer to Offer NVIDIA DGX-1 Deep Learning System

Posted by in categories: robotics/AI, supercomputing

Now, I have been hearing folks are planning to experiment with block chaining on the new Nvidia DGX-1. I do know Nvidia’s CEO mentioned that DGX-1 could be used in conjunction with block chaining as an interim step to Quatum Computing to help secure information. We’ll see.

Sterling Heights, MI (PRWEB) April 24, 2016.

Rave Computer, an Elite Solution Provider in the NVIDIA Partner Network program, today announced that it has been selected to offer the new NVIDIA® DGX-1™ deep learning system, the world’s first deep learning supercomputer designed to meet the unlimited computing demands of artificial intelligence.

Japan set to open ‘robot kingdom‘ that employees robots

Posted by in categories: augmented reality, robotics/AI, virtual reality

Now, that is a concept to consider. Could we see theme parks like Disney be completely operated by robots and leverage other AI technology as well as VR/ AR technology?

A Nagasaki amusement park is turning the fears of a robot-run world into a family friendly attraction. Huis Ten Bosch is set to feature more than 200 androids in its ‘robot kingdom’ to serve guests.

Finance actually wants more regulation because of the rise of artificial intelligence fintech in the world’s markets

Posted by in categories: cybercrime/malcode, finance, robotics/AI

I am not surprised by this; I do expect this given the existing cyber threat risks around AI especially around the existing under pinning technology/ platforms and net infrastructures.

The finance world is cautiously optimistic about the future of artificial intelligence and how it can be used, but, there is more work needed on regulating the technology when it comes to world markets.

“Financial institutions have been fined billions of dollars because of illegality and compliance breaches by traders. A logical response by banks is to automate as much decision-making as possible, hence the number of banks enthusiastically embracing AI and automation,” said Baker and McKenzie head of financial services regulation Arun Srivastava.

Want a career in artificial intelligence? Here’s a guide

Posted by in categories: computing, employment, information science, robotics/AI

Good article overall highlighting the gaps in AI talent. I do know that some of the best AI SMEs in the US all have worked somewhere in their careers at the US National Labs because many us had to build “real time” systems that leveraged complex algorithms to self-monitor conditions and react independently under certain conditions arise and in some cases we leveraged the super computer to prove theories as well. I suggest locate where some of these folks exist because you will find your talent pool.

Artificial Intelligence: China Accelerates Bid For Global Dominance In ‘Robotics’

Posted by in category: robotics/AI

China continues to accelerate its bid to grab the initiative in 21st-century robotics and artificial intelligence development as the next emerging global powerhouse. Small wonder that the world’s leading manufacturing giant has already raced past the rest of the world as a major user of robots.

According to the China Robot Industry Alliance, the country is already a flourishing hub for consumer robotics and is poised for a radical transition from its human-based workforce to an automated Artificial Intelligence or AI-based alternative. Its recent unveiling of the incredibly adept and efficient personal robot BIG-i is a pertinent example. Dubbed “butler,” this humanoid is primarily a service robot with the programmed ability to aid homeowners in the performance of a wide variety of household errands. It can easily track the location of various household appliances and transport items from one point to the next by employing its claw-like mechanical hands.
