Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been talking about the electric plane for a long time. He even said he has an electric vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft project, though he never went into details about plans to launch it into production.

Musk said that in order for his design to work, it is necessary to increase the specific energy of the batteries. He calculated that lithium-ion batteries would need to reach an energy density of 400 Wh / kg for the batteries to outperform kerosene (Jet A) and for his electric plane to be viable.

Mike Snead, P.E., president of the Spacefaring Institute, was invited to present at the Envision Humanity conference held in Portugal on 18 July 2020. This presentation was delivered via video. It addresses the world green energy needed to “globally reset” human civilization using astroelectricity (GEO space-based solar power) to achieve sustainable, prosperous living worldwide. The presentation also shows why the “Green New Deal’s” call to use terrestrial nuclear and renewable energy to replace fossil carbon fuels is not a practical solution. The presentation provides an interesting way to understand the magnitude of the engineering challenge and options available to complete this important transition to sustainable energy.

A team of scientists has been developing an alternative solution for those warm summer months called the Cold Tube, which works by absorbing body heat emitted from a person and can use around half the energy of traditional systems as a result.

The notoriously bad energy efficiency of air conditioners has motivated the development a range of environmentally friendly solutions, from attachments that use water mist to pre-cool the units to solar-powered systems that produce hot water at the same time. In 2018, Richard Branson even launched a US$3 million competition aimed at developing more energy efficient air conditioners.

Similarly, the research team behind the Cold Tube has been investigating next-generation systems that keep people cool in more efficient ways. Made up of scientists from the University of British Columbia, Princeton University, the University of California, Berkeley and the Singapore-ETH Centre, the team took aim at the dehumidification process that is a critical function of today’s air conditioning systems.

First and foremost, I would likd to reiterate that Elon Musk is not motivated by money. Elon Musk uses his wealth to make a difference to mankind. Yes he makes billions (and deservedly) but he invests his billions for other projects too. From Tesla to Neuralink; from Starlink to The Boring Company. And for me the ever exciting SpaceX. My only wish is I live long enough to witness his many inventions and projects.

Four months ago when I did the video below and predicted that Elon Musk would be the World’s First Trillionaire, most people laughed and ridiculed the video especially as at that time Elon was only the 35th Richest Man in the World with a net worth of around the $30 Billion mark.

Fast forward four months later, Elon has added another £57.2 Billion to his net worth. And from 35th to 4th richest person in the world.

Imagine being the world’s first Trillionaire overcoming Jeff Bezos. What further projects will Elon do to advance the development of mankind. I for one, can’t wait.
