Transhumanism and Human Genetic Engineering — ROBERT SEPEHR

Posted by in categories: bioengineering, genetics, life extension, nanotechnology, robotics/AI, transhumanism

Transhumanism advocates the use of current and emerging technologies such as genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology, to augment human capabilities, enhance longevity, and improve cognition. The term “designer baby” refers to a child who would develop from an embryo or sperm or egg that had been genetically altered. Is there a covert political agenda behind this allegedly altruistic scientific movement?

Robert Sepehr is an anthropologist and author.

These are the Principles of the Singularity | David Wood on Feedback Loop, ep 80

Posted by in categories: business, education, robotics/AI, singularity, transhumanism

This week our guest is David Wood, a long-time futurist and renowned transhumanist thinker. David has authored 10 books on the subject of our technological future, including his recently published book Singularity Principles: Anticipating and Managing Cataclysmically Disruptive Technologies.

In addition to exploring some of the principles and ideas from David’s latest publication, this episode takes a wide but succinct tour of the singularity. This includes (but is certainly not limited to) the rise of artificial general intelligence, and whether we should merge with AI or if it will be a conscious entity separate from humans. We also discuss the variety of challenges that could push us towards a negative Singularity, as well as the many opportunities that could propel us toward an abundant and thriving future.

NEW NOW. Transhumanism: beyond the human frontier?

Posted by in categories: bioengineering, biotech/medical, education, ethics, health, policy, transhumanism

The fourth discussion of the NEW NOW program, “Transhumanism: Beyond the Human Frontier?”, took place on December 16.

Together with our guest experts, we tried to identify the latest technology that has either already become a reality or is currently in development, focusing on the ethical aspects of the consequences that ensue. We reflected on the question of whether the realization of transhumanist ideas is likely to entail a radical change in the ways people relate to one another. How far are we prepared to go in changing our bodies in order to attain these enhanced capacities? We will attempt to identify the “human frontier”, beyond which the era of posthumanism awaits.

Esper Hand is a “human-like” prosthetic arm that can be controlled by the mind

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, cyborgs, robotics/AI, transhumanism

Video on prosthetic Esper hand.

New York-based engineering startup Esper Bionics has developed a flexible prosthetic mind-controlled hand that learns how to suggest the best grip faster than similar prosthetics.
Esper Bionics’ robotic arm is designed to be lighter and learn faster than many of the prosthetics currently available for amputees. The more the wearer uses the hand, the better and quicker it is to suggest the right grip.
